NEed Help: Cant Access Internet, w/WinME, Router, DSL

I am trying the following network at home:
Desktop: Win98Se
Laptop: WinME
Router: Netgear RT314
DSL: Belsouth (PPPoE)

The configuration works totally fine at desktop. I can access net, browse webpages, access files on the laptop. However when I try to do the same from the lappy.... I can just view the files on the Desktop. No Internet connectivity. Cant browse any websites. I checked TCP/IP settings. They seem ok. Tried unistalling and reinstalling them back... no help. Made sure that the TCP/IP is bound with the NIC (Netgear FA410TX).

Any help would be highly appreciated.
thanks

Do you have any other protocols installed that would enable LAN connectivity? If not, I would troubleshoot as a DNS issue. Can your router pass ICMP (pinging) traffic to the WAN from the ME client? If so, try pinging a public IP and if that works ping the domain name. If that doesnt work then it is DNS. You might try statically adding DNS info on the problem client.

Thanks for the help. It worked !

1) there are no other protocols installed. Actually I tried installing them and then removed it. No good either way.
2) I cannot ping to either Router WAN IP or any other public IP from the problem client.
3) Tried Statically defining the DNS. However, on top of this I had to specify a LAN IP to the lappy as well. But doing this... it worked great!

Is there anything that I need to do to get rid of this problem and make it run "normally" or should I let this lappy run like this.

thanks for the help.
