need help, camcorder question

so I have a panasonic Digital camcorder(PV GS31). I"m not sure how I can record a video with the camera and transfer the video on the computer.

the camcorder has a place for an SD card but that is only for still photos. It uses the DV tapes, and not a CD, so I cannot directly stick it into my pc.

the manual says to use a DV cable, but I dont have one.

It has a USB, but when I do that, it only has the option of using it as a webcam or grabbing the photos, not the vidoes.

any programs that I can download that will allow me to do that?

any ideas??

You need a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire (1394) cable to connect the camcorder to your PC. It will be recognized as a video device and you can use Windows Movie Maker to bring the video into your PC.

The USB cable is meant for control and monitoring (like a webcam) and nothing more.
