need help buying a video card...

my pc redraws the screen really slowly, but i couldn't understand why since i have 256MB of ram. When I asked my friend he says that it probably is my video card( i have 16MB). But I don't really know anything about video cards. Can someone provide some help or a tutorial on buying one?

Well, as cheap as possible but it still has to be good enough to ease the lag on my pc.

I actually need a website that can teach what those video card stats mean (ie. chipset, memory, etc.) so I can decide which is best for my computer. Because when I do a search, they usually just tell me what video card to buy but not what those statistics mean. That is why i want to learn it myself.

Anyone know of such a website.

First, ask yourself what you want to do with your new video card. Play the latest games? If so, then depending on the types of games as well. FPS (first person shooter-type) games and anything that uses advanced 3D graphics will require the most advanced video cards, meaning more bucks. If you only want to surf the net, or use office/graphics applications, you may be able to get away with less advanced/cheaper video cards.

That GeForce 2 GTS is a pretty good deal for 49 dollars...
I just picked up a Radeon 8500 for about 155 shipped... so if you've got a little more to spend, either this card or the GF3 Ti 200 are good cards.
