I was looking at the GeForce FX 5200 video cards. Are they any good? Any recommendations?

As of right now, I don't want to spend anything more than $100.

A ~$100 128MB 4200-8x (make sure the memory is 512MHz) is your best bet at that price level--forget the 5200. A ~$100 250/250MHz 9100 would be nice if you'll use AF (anisotropic filtering) all the time.

Only consider the 5200 if you're not much of a gamer, and you don't want to deal with fan noise. Most 5200's don't have or require cooling fans. Otherwise, the Geforce4Ti4200 is a better idea. On the ATI side, Radeon 8500 or 9100 is a good idea.

The Ti4200 is a DirectX8 card. But don't worry. By the time anything comes out that actually requires a DX9 card, you'll be able to upgrade to a Radeon 9700/9800 at about the same price. :)

Uh..no, the 5200 is a budget card and probably won't be able to play any future games at all, regardless of dx9. 4200 is a much better choice.

Nicely done! Were it not for the fact I'm getting my Hercules Radeon 8500LE (a bit slower than your TI4200 but enough for me) for all of ~$45US brand new, I'd have gone for that card too. :)
