Check out onvia.com for some good deals. They have a $25 off coupon floating around.

I would get an OEM athlon, and get a Tai Sol heat sink, they work really well, i get temperatures around 36 when web browsing and listening to mp3s

Good choices. The 650 shows your new. Kinda like my 750 TB. Aren't yet sure how well you're gonna be able to OC it so you grab the extra 50 for 10 bucks just in case :p I was there 2 months ago. You learn pretty fast :)

I hadn't yet found this forum when I put together my parts list, but on the recommendation of a friend I came up with www.3dfxcool.com. Those guys are VERY helpful and they pointed me to the Alpha7HO cooler. See my sig. I run about 7 C hotter than room temp when doing daily tasks. Games and RC5 is another matter.

Depending on your OS, hit up 256 ram. If you plan on using win2k (Highly recommend this if you are not a REALLY serious gamer, it is FAR more stable) then grab the 256. It's well worth it.

Don't forget sound, speakers, monitor, DVD drive.

best of luck!

I disagree, troubleshooter, especially with your comment that getting a 650 duron "shows your new." And if anything, I would say to do the opposite of what you are telling him and drop to a 600mhz for $15 cheaper. The point in overclocking is that processors are not run at the highest speed they can, just set lower and sold cheaply. Try overclockers.com and check their cpu database.
I s'pose it is a matter of opinion, but get whatever you'd like, Apoptosis.
And might I reccomend again that you check onvia? 25 dollar off coupon can be found at tech bargains dot com.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I think I'll go for the 650 Duron at onvia, just because it's closer to 100 and I won't have to fill my cart with garbage I dont's need to use the coupon. Add three 0.99 12x cdr with jewel case and total is 100.55, comes to 75.55 shipped....not too bad! My big concern is whether or not to buy an aftermarket hsf? From reading other threads, it seems like people are having success with the stock hsf.
