Hola, I've built a pc once and it wasn't a great experience. I've done my research into those online custom pc companies (and all the complaints that come along with them). My current rig is AGP based and my processor is an ancient AthlonXP (1.6ghz). I'd like to get a totally new setup and keep my current hard drives, that's it. The problem for me comes in that I have between $750 and 800 to spend. I'm also totally confused now that since 2003 (when I upgraded last), there's PCI express, SLI, more complicated power supplies, and GASP dual-core processors. I need help in a major way.
I generally do a lot of multi-tasking, some gaming, and a ton of cd/dvd burning. I do plan on running Vista, I'm really a newb when it comes to overclocking (but I am savvy enough to find my way around the BIOS settings), and my drives are IDE, and I don't plan on keeping my ancient cdrw/dvdrw drive. My goals are to get a dual-core system with a dependable motherboard 1-2 gbs of RAM, and a PCI express card that will last me a long while. I've heard that Intel's Dual Cores are MUCH better than AMD's...is that true?
The case is another area where I am going blind (I prefer a black mid-tower. my wife wants LEDs). SLI doesn't seem to be of interest to me since I'm not a hardcore gamer. I also don't need a monitor. I've thought of going to Dell or HP, but their cases aren't manual hardware upgrade friendly and I'd like to upgrade various things when I feel like it. I generally do a lot of multi-tasking, some gaming, and a ton of cd/dvd burning.
Any and all help is appreciated!!!!!!
