I need to build a system that will allow me to do lots of graphics, video editing, video capture and music.
I have a budget of around $1000
I have some parts but I need some recommendations on the rest please.

Tower - need at least 6 drive bays - got the Antec 1080 with a 430PS
DVD Burner - got the NEC1300A for $105 at Newegg
4 CD-RWs - got them
250GB HD Drive - got a Western Digital 7200RPM 8MB cache

These are what I most need help with
Processor - thought AMD 2700 that is at zipzoomfly retail for $121 but would like a 2.8 to 3.0GB CPU
Motherboard -need one that will do SCSI as I will need to have 4 burners running at once. Will I need a SCSI card or will it come with the board?
Sound Card - need one that does recording/play - need 2 in, 2 out. RCA or Standard. Mike, Midi and USB
Capture Card - need 2 in 2 out - I need to be able to capture from Camcorder or VHS. And for DV or RCA format
Video Card - not sure what to get. Will be doing movie editing and commercials
RAM - would like 2GB

Thanks so much

So, we need to put together a video system for $1000? Lets get started! First, I am going to price out all the parts, to see how much is left over for a motherboard and CPU (so you can get the fastest one that you can afford).

Sound Card - need one that does recording/play - need 2 in, 2 out. RCA or Standard. Mike, Midi and USB

I would suggest the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 OEM, shown here: NewEgg. It is $75, and it has all these connectors: Line-out,Line-in,Mic-in,Digital Out(5.1),SB1394/Firewire,Analog/Digital CD Audio in,Telephone Answering Device in,GAME/MIDI port via extension header (taken from newegg's site).

Capture Card - need 2 in 2 out - I need to be able to capture from Camcorder or VHS. And for DV or RCA format
and
Video Card - not sure what to get. Will be doing movie editing and commercials

I think you should get the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro All-In-Wonder, with 64MB DDR Ram. It has a built in capture card, with 1 S-Vid in, 1 S-Vid out, and 1 composite (RCA) input. It also has 1 DVI Port (for a LCD monitor) and 1 VGA port (for a CRT monitor). It is $151. This card is not good for games though.

NewEgg
RAM - would like 2GB

I would go with 2 of these 1GB kits: NewEgg. Total for both is $426, for 2GBs of ram.

Ok, all these parts add up to $652, leaving $348 for a motheboard and processor! From your post, I think you already own the case, DVD burner, CD-RW drives, and HDD (correct me if im wrong). So here are the rest of the parts:

Processor - thought AMD 2700 that is at zipzoomfly retail for $121 but would like a 2.8 to 3.0GB CPU

Since there is so much left over, I would go with a Intel Pentium 4 2.8c, with 800FSB and HyperThreading. It is $213 at NewEgg for a retail box. NewEgg

Motherboard -need one that will do SCSI as I will need to have 4 burners running at once. Will I need a SCSI card or will it come with the board?

For a motherboard, I would suggest the Asus P4P800 Deluxe. NewEgg It is $134 at NewEgg.com. About SCSI, I have never seen a board with onboard SCSI, so you will need a SCSI card.

Talk about close! These parts add up to $347, and you have $348 left to spend. I own the ram (only 1 of the 1GB kits though), motherboard, and the 2.6GHz version of the CPU that I recommended you. So for $999, you are getting one kick-azz system! Let me know what you think.

From what you want, I think this board will fit your needs more.

I'll leave the rest to the other members :)

Thanks so much guys.
SuperFreak03,
Will this card ATI Radeon 9000 Pro All-In-Wonder, with 64MB DDR Ram also allow capture from a Camcorder? I could not find any info on it.

Also, just found out that the CD-RW Burners I got are IDE and not SCSI as I had ordeered. ANy recommendations for some SCSI ones?
Also, what do you recommend for a SCSI controller card for the 4 Burners?

I forgot to mention the the 250GB drive is for the OS and storage. I also got 2 120GB drives to do a Raid setup to improve editing processing. Do you think that is overkill?
Thanks

How does the camcorder hook up? Just use the cables provided with the camcorder (should be regular RCA connectors), and hook them into the card (a little adaptor comes with it for RCA connectors, look at the picture at NewEgg). If it hooks up with FireWire or USB (I dont know much about these though, as mine was made before these technologies (1997), then you are fine, as the motherboard has firewire and USB2.

Also, just found out that the CD-RW Burners I got are IDE and not SCSI as I had ordeered. ANy recommendations for some SCSI ones?

I don't know much about SCSI (except that it is fast and expensive lol), but why do you need SCSI CD burners? I own a 52X I/O-Magic burner that burns a complete 700MB CD in under 2:30 minutes, and that is with my old P3 500MHz system (havent tried with my new P4 system). I honestly think that 2 minutes and 30 seconds is fast enough (considering the burner was only $20), and you can still browse the web and do other things.

Also, what do you recommend for a SCSI controller card for the 4 Burners?

I have heard good things about Adaptec SCSI controllers, but that was like a year ago. So I really can't answer this.

I forgot to mention the the 250GB drive is for the OS and storage. I also got 2 120GB drives to do a Raid setup to improve editing processing. Do you think that is overkill?

Since you deal with video, the 250GB wasn't overkill. But if I were you I would have bought 2 WD 36GB Raptor drives (10K RPM) and put them in a RAID setup instead (around $110 each). Even though they are only 36GB, you didn't plan to use the RAID for storage did you? So you should capture to the Raptor drive, edit/convert/etc on the raptor, then copy it to the 250GB drive or burn it. But people say that putting the Raptors in RAID didn't help performance all that much, so you should probably just return one of the 120GB drives, and buy a Raptor in its place.

SuperFreak03,

Ahem, its "SpeedFreak03" ;).
