Alright thanks Crescent13, took your suggestion on the video card and mouse. As far as the broken sound card link, here is one that works. So with all that, will that power supply be enough?

Edit: Also, is this monitor good for gaming? I remember hearing to stay away from things with 16ms times. However, it says 8ms gray-to-gray, and 16ms white-black-white. I'm a little confused about whether this would be fine for fast paced FPS games or not.

Yes the PSU will be fine for all of that.

The VX20205WM is supposed to be a great 20" for gaming! Good choice.

Alright well what I hear from the people on newegg, the fans in the coolermaster are very nice. Also, the fan on the X1900XT look fine. This leaves me only needing a CPU fan/heatsink right? What do you guys reccomend that is cheap and will keep it cool enough? Also are the CPU fans/heatsinks just plug and play? How are they mounted in?

From what I've read about it, the Core 2 Duos overclock well with the stock fans that come in the retail box. So unless you're hard core overclocker, I would not bother unless you want a real quiet system. Just trying to save you some bucks.

Alright thanks, wasn't aware that the stock processors even came with a fan. So, since my video card, case, processor all have fans, I should be good to go for cooling, correct?

Bump, gonna order as soon as I can be sure that I will be fine on cooling with the stock fans on the Processor, case, and video card.

i'm personally not a fan of stock coolers, but to each their own. i'd say, go ahead and rig it up with everything stock, and see how you like it. if it's too loud or the temps are too high, then you will need better cooling. plus you shouldn't be in any hurry about cooling...it will always be an option in the future regardless. my comp is in my bedroom, so noise is an issue. plus i get to enjoy a smirk every time friends come over and say that they can't even tell my computer is on 🙂

dunno what crescent has against 7900gt's, but they work great and are extremely fast. haven't tried x1900s myself, but no need to. i got my card for far less than what you were going to pay

I'm in the same boat as dhill....been wanting to build for years but put it off. Ordered custom spec computers instead. Thought this time I'd go with a Conroe based Dell XPS 700 but those have been delayed forever and the Gateways are available now but test poorly. The CNET review claims the Dell (which they review even though you can't buy one now) with it's Nvidia MB chipset and Nvidia vid card performs much better than the Gateway with the Intel 975 chipset and ATI MB. Here's the review BTW,

Anyway my question is this.......how well do we know about the current MBs and their compatibility with Conroe? Is it still too early to know? Is it possible to use one particularly MB have have it be significantly inferior performance-wise to another just because Conroe is so new?
