Need help, building a computer, no post, motherboard problem?

I am building a new computer, and my config as following:

Motherboard: MB ASUS P5N-E SLI NF650I SLI 775
CPU: E4300
PSU: Ultra V Series 500W Power Supply
Case: Ante 900
Memory:CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
Video: old video card from my old computer (I don't play game)
HD: Seagate 320G SATA

The problem is after I connect the Power cord from the PSU to the motherboard, I powered it up. I can see the cpu cooling/psu fan running, led light on. There is just no post, no beep, no display on my monitor. I then tried only 1 GB memeory, still no beep, no post.

I checked the power connectors to the motherboard, seems fine. I bought all of the components new except the video card. It is not my first time building a computer, but the last two computers I built was 5 years ago.

Anybody know what is wrong with my computer? Thanks for help!

check the power connections, then check that you have all the parts seated.. i forgot to install the ram on my last build for a customer and didnt notice until i looked on the counter top and saw it still in its package lol

yes. I plugged in the ATX12V cable. without it, the stock CPU cooling fan won't even run.
I also double checked the ram.

but other people say, even without the ram, I should see the post. the video card is from my old computer, guarranteed to work.

I am kind of very frustrated. I have not built a computer for quite a while, not sure what I missed.

Try clearing the CMOS.

1) unplug the computer's power cord from the wall

2) remove the CR2032 battery from the motherboard

3) move the CLRTC jumper cap onto pins 2 & 3 for about 15 seconds, then move it back

4) install the CR2032 battery into the motherboard

5) plug the computer into the wall and try to start it.

If that doesn't help, turn off the computer and unplug all non-essential parts from the motherboard. Only install the items that would be necessary to display a POST screen: the video card, the CPU and heatsink/fan, one stick of RAM. Don't plug in the mouse, the keyboard, the drives' data cables, the case wiring for USB/audio ports, or any add-in cards except the video card.

If it still doesn't work, remove the motherboard from the case, lay it on cardboard, and threaten it with a pitcher of water  then try powering it up on the cardboard surface. This test eliminates the case as a possible source of short-circuits.

Thank you very much for the suggestion and advice. appreciated. I will try to clear cmos later.

Actually this is the second motherboard I tested. the first motherboard I used is the
MB GIGABYTE|GA-965P-DS3 V1.3 R - Retail (bought new from newegg). I did all of what you said, including taking out the battery and clear CMOS. not working.

I doubt if the cpu is a bad one. I bought it brand new (retail box) from mwave.com.
btw, if everything works, should I hear some beep sounds (even if the memory is a bad one)?

thanks.

You should get some beeps when you power it up, especially if your ram is bad. For example, on my DFI board if there is a problem with the ram, I get one long beep and then a long pause before the next long beep.
