Need Help Booting Up WinXP - New Build

savvy

Senior member
This is my first build and I need help troubleshooting so that I can install Windows XP Pro.

Specifications:
E6600
P5W DH (BIOS 1101)
XMS2 DDR-800 2 GB RAM PC-6400 (In BIOS it seems to show PC-5300 for some reason)
2x 320GB Seagate SATA (shows up as Standard IDE I think.)
7950 GX2
SAMSUNG 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With 5X DVD-RAM Write and LightScribe Black ATA/ATAPI Model SHS162LBEBN - OEM (Is not being detected.)

I had to use an external USB CD/DVD drive to try to install windows because it won't recognize the Samsung CD/DVD drive. The motherboard manual says it does not support ATAPI, but I read that the higher BIOS's will allow it, I believe.

Here is the main problem: When I try to install Windows XP Pro it loads up the drivers and such but after that it says "Stop 0x0000007B" and some parameters. I looked that up. (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324103), but I am not sure what I should do since these are new hard drives.

Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.

I think I am going to open it up and see if everything inside is correctly plugged in and such.

do you have DVD setup in bios to boot before hard drives or the BIOS doesnt show your DVD at all?

It doesn't show the internal DVD at all in the BIOS boot sequence.

After doing a bit of research, I think I might have to switch the drive from PRI_EIDE to PRI_IDE. I will try that right now and see what happens.

does it show on the bios screen that shows all your devices like hard drives floppies and opticals?

No, it shows my two hard drives, and the external optical drive, and the e6600, but not the ATAPI internal hard drive. I don't have a floppy drive.

After the screen that loads the windows files comes up, it gives me the error 0x0000007B.

I am not sure what to do. I checked to see everything was connected properly. Could it be because both of my hard drives are SATA?

It says in the motherboard manual they would be set to Standard IDE by default.

So if it's standard IDE, I don't need third party drivers, correct?

Or do I still need drivers? Where would I get them? The motherboard did not come with SATA drivers.

My problems are the following:

-Windows shows the 0x0000007B screen.
-My Samsung ATAPI optical drive does not show up in the BIOS.

I had asked before if all my things would be compatible, and people said yes. I wonder what could be the problem. The BIOS I have is 1101, so that can't be the problem. I checked to make sure cables are secure and such.

If your using just SATA hard drives you prob need the controllers driver which you woulld install by pressing tapping F6 when windows install starts by putting files on a floppy.

In the BIOS it shows this:

Primary IDE Master : [Not Detected]
Primary IDE Slave : [Not Detected]
Third IDE Master : [ST3320620AS]
Third IDE Slave : [ST3320620AS]
Fourth IDE Master : [Not Detected]
Fourth IDE Slave : [Not Detected]

Do I still need the drivers? Where would I download them from?

Now I am getting this screen on the Windows Setup via my external USB when I pressed F6 just to see what would happen:

"Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices installed in your system, or you have chosen to manually specify and adapter. Currently Setup will load support for the following mass storage devices(s): <none>"

So it seems that windows cannot detect the SATA drives that are configured to run in Standard IDE by default. Where would I go about getting these drivers? I would need to probably buy a floppy drive in order to load these drivers once I get the,, correct?

Also, if I do indeed solve the above problem, what could be the reason for my internal SAMSUNG 16X DVD±R ATAPI optical drive not working?

But for now, I am more concerned with actually loading Windows into the computer. So if anyone can help me with that foremost, I will be grateful.

Thanks.

In the motherboard manual it says I can make a RAID floppy with the motherboard CD actually. 🙂

Now I just need a floppy.

Does anyone know of any good floppy drive I can get pretty cheap? I checked Sunday's paper and there seems to not be any on sale.
