need help booting old gateway!

Help! i am tring to boot an old gateway 2000 model G6-400. I can tell by looking at it that it has a p-2 with a motherboard with onboard sound. My problem is that when I boot it I get a password screen in the black and white text only boot up screen. I tried multiple passwords no password, tried to enter the bios all to no avail. I thought I reset the cmos by moving a jumper then moving it back but no go. Can anyone give me any suggestions? should I remove the battery?? any help appreciated. Mark

Try removing the CMOS battery and moving the jumper...use both methods. By default the CMOS battery will hold the passwords so that should clear everything in like 10 seconds (remove it for 30 just to be safe).
