This is the first time I have built a computer so bear with me plz.

After Getting everything hooked up which seemed to be correct I turned it on i got both lights on the mother board and all my fans were working, but on my monitor it read no signal input. I went thought and just started it with cpy, vid, ram, and it said same thing im getting pretty lost here. I also cannot hear any beeps not sure why...I tried a new vid card and got same result i also have not other ram so i canot test that. Any help would be appreciated becuase it looks like i miught have to take this to an expert..
I have Abit NF7-S
Cpu:Athlon Xp 2800
Ram:Crucial DDR 400 512 mb
Vid Card:Msi Ati 9800

Start by checking these things:

1) Is your heatsink on this way? Yes = 🙂. If it is aimed the other way, don't try to start up the computer.

2) Is your power supply's ATX12V cable plugged into the motherboard? Yes = 🙂.

3) Did you plug in the secondary power pigtail to your video card so it's connected to the system's power supply?

4) Is your power supply up to the task? What brand and model is it?

I have a couple other things to check on, back in a couple minutes here. Welcome to the Forums 🙂

Make sure the motherboard is properly mounted on the standoffs to prevent any shorting out.

As far as I can tell it is mounted properly I evevn took it out and put it in to make sure there wasnt like an extra standoff or soemthing.

[The fan turns on the video card and i only see one place for a power cable so i think so

I bought the antec sonnata case which i believe comes with a true 380wat psu?

Thx for the quick replies so far

Ok, hmm. Could you try re-seating all your cards and plugs quite firmly, just in case something's not quite all the way seated? Sometimes brand-new AGP slots can fool you... I've got a couple photos here illustrating the two-layer nature of AGP cards, and the benchtesting setup in the fourth photo may be coming soon to a computer near you, if it won't start cooperating 😉 At least your system is built with nice-quality parts so we don't have the complications of scummy power supplies or whatnot 🙂

It would also be a good idea to unplug the computer and clear the CMOS using the procedure shown on page 3-13 of the manual (I'm going by a .PDF manual here, hope the page numbers jive). Good luck! 🙂

Ive taken the video card out many times and reseated it but still seems to not work ive also cleared my cmos settings allready. I also noticed that when i do turn on my computer that the message on my monitor saying no input signal blinks does this sound odd?

That might be normal behavior by the No Video signa, depends on the monitor. Do you have another system you could test some of the parts in, and so to verify if the video card and RAM are healthy?

If not, I guess the next-best thing would be to strip it down and test it with just the bare essentials, sitting on its cardboard box outside the case like in my photo there. No drives, no case wiring except the Power Button wire.

well after i took the motherboard out again and looked at the cpu it seems that my thermal paste is all messed up so ill have to wait to get some more but i dont think that caused the problem since it was on correctly before. I think ill take it to a repair guy so he can figure out which piede is no functioning properly so i dont end up sending back everything since there no way i can test the parts on another system...ill post back when i find out what is wrong.
Thx for the help though
