Need help blocking a HAM radio or CB signal.

There must be a HAM Radio operator near me because I?m picking up one side of a transmission on PC Speakers, the TV, Stereo, etc. Anyone ever have or hear of this problem?

Any information on how I can either block out his transmission or track him down to get him to turn down his signal would be appreciated. It seems as though he is only on after 11:00pm EST and I?ve already learned all I care to about raising chickens and the proper configuration of a damn chicken coop. (BTW, did you know; ?You don?t need no damn light in that there chicken coop cuzin? those damn chickens ain?t a goin? nowhere at night no how!?)

I would really like to block this guy out of my life for good. The first time I heard him I thought the house I just moved in to was haunted!

(maybe if I lined the walls with aluminum foil, it worked on those alien signal once.)

get your own radio or connect a transmitter to your computer, and when he's sending, send a message telling him that he's bothering you and to stop transmitting that loudly.

Actually, if you want to see if you have any hams in the neighborhood just look for some crazy looking antennas usually quite high. Most ofthent hough hams dont cause interference and if they do you'll probably most likely just see it in your tv signal. My guess would be some ass in your neighborhood is running a cb base station thats putting out too much power!

I suspect it's probably a CBer running way more than the legal limit.

I think the CB Base makes more sense now that you bring it up. Any ideas on how to track him down or block his signal?

If you can hear him clearly enough to be able to tell what he's saying, he's most likely a CB'er as Tiger said. Most ham radio ops use a method of voice that would sound kinda garbled (like Donald Duck) in a device picking up the signal.

To cause that much trouble he has to be close, possibly within one block.
You can eliminate a lot of the trash by shortening up the leads to the computer speakers, TV, etc.... Just roll up as much as you can. Those leads are acting like antenna's because their length is close to the resonant frequency of the transmissions.

I'll give shotening the leads a try Tiger and see what that does. The only other thing I can think of is to listen to his broadcast for a while to see if I can catch his call letters and track him that way.

Remember too if he is on a CB he won't have a call sign like hams do, but he'll just have a handle that he goes on. I'd stil just drive around the block too and look for any unusual antennas!

I've had that happen before....and a midnight walk with a pair of sharp wirecutters normally clears up the airways nicely...

Legal limit for cb is 4 watts. My cb transmits at 400 watts. Thats with my linear amp. Thats what it sounds like and they are all over the place. You can interfere with tv and radio from a mile awy with that kind of power. Look for odd shaped antenna's on homes or on vehicles in your area. Also,notify police. They have access to the FCC to file charges and persue the illegal radio transmissions. It is costly to triangulate the offending signal,but that is your first line of defense against this bozo. Also,see if you can tell from his transmissions anything that might help the authorities in thier investigation.
Are your neighbors experiencing similar disturbances?

I've spoken to a couple of the neighbors tripleshot but none of them have experienced the problem.

I think he might be on the East side of the house somewhere as my daughters PC speakers pick the signal up much clearer in their room which is on the East side.

Thanks for the tips about contacting the police. My brother-in-law is a Sergeant on the city policeforce and will investigate for me.

I say, tell the cops he's running a meth lab and using his CB radio as a form of communication between himself and his other meth labs. Then, tell your brother in law to send in SWAT!!!!
