Need Help Badly

Ok. So I'm trying to put in a new Maxtor drive which is going to replace my WD. I put the Maxtor in as the slave, install XP on it, boot up to the Maxtor and it's all good. Then I removed the WD, changed the jumpers and everything and booted up, I went into setup and it recognizes the HD. But it is saying Primary Hard Drive 1 is not found and NTLDR is missing. I think it is when I did the Maxtor I made 2 partitions, one NTSB and one FAT32 (not on purpose)

Tried running the Repair off the Win XP CD by changing the BIOS to boot from CD. Tried Fixmbr ... still no luck. What else can I do from repair??

And why is it saying Primary Drive 1 is missing (not found) when it is recognized in the BIOS!?!?

Thanks

-Phil

P.S. The WD is removed and the Maxtor is now the Master.

not that I know of. Someone said that since I installed the XP while the WD was master, my boot stuff is on that drive and I can either reinstall or repair. What the hell should I do in repair though. Tried fixboot, fixmbr and none of that seems to work.

If you are lucky, all you would have to do is modify the c:\boot.ini. I would remove the WD drive and reinstall on the maxtor.

The WD is removed! And I can't reinstall on the Maxtor because there is important info in there.

Go back to your original configuration, learn to make proper backups, and try again.

Anyone? Please how to get rid of NTLDR is missing??

If you reinstall without formatting the drives it should fix the problem without getting rid of this data you say is important enough to have qa broken machine over but not important enough to backup.
