Welll, went to my local shop today and picked up a simple and cheap PCI vid card (PINE 305 32meg PCI card)

Got everything working and what not... but theres a few problems

1) Res not going nearly as high as box posted (says it supports all the way to 1600x1200) while it strugles to put up 1024x768

2)MY STOCK ON BOARD 4 meg vid card puts out better frames in AOT , around 26 - 32 in 800x600 16 bit color while this thing (same options) barely pushed 12 FRAMES! ERRR ...

my drivers are all correct, direct x 9 is installed. All windows updates are complete.

Its on IRQ 11 while my NICs are on 5 and usb controller 3

Integrated parallel port is set on enhanced capabilites, which is supposedly the "best"

Hopefully someone can help me out here because im pulling my hair out. AOT IS impossible to play @ 12 frames in CRAPPY res.!

thnx in advance!

If you have the latest drivers from the SiS website, and have made sure that all driver residue and registry enteries from your previous card is removed, then I'd say that's about all you can do. I've found the TNT2 is much better then the SiS 305.

Thanks for your reply holden,

yes my drivers are all up to date (pines website doesnt even have drivers on their page for XP) XP "automatically" lol installs them for you.

But there being any thing left in my registry from an old card, this is the 1st aftermarket card ive put in this machine aside from the stock one. It seems every time i disable the old one or uninstall drivers, XP updates and "re"installs them everytime i boot!

Could this be were my problem lies?

Because i know for a fact that its impossible even for this crappy pine card to be overdone by my Stock 4MB onboard COMPAQ vid card?

It just doesnt add up.

What kind of frames/res did you get with your pine?

thanks!

I didn't have a Pine card.... a friend did though. We both had similar K6-2 rigs and the TNT2 was ALWAYS smoother then the SiS (especially when overclocked). The colours were also better on the TNT2. I would have expected the SiS to be better then onboard video though.

I would recommend you do a clean install of the OS, if you have not done this already.
