Hi,

I just had to try a new cpu upgrade. I picked up a XP 1700 and
flashed my bios to 1009. Everything looked ok, I set the i/o to 3.3
the core voltage to 1.75 an left the rest jumperless. I later upgraded my via 4-1 to the new beta 4.39 . Windows is fine at restart but from a cold start I have to hit the reset button fot the system to load. I can even set the FBS to 140 and ram to case 2. I ran games and DVD's but I still get a hang up at start-up and have to hit the reset button. I have a powertech 300w PS that ran my duron O/c to 864..I later loaded the via bio 4.37 and still no change...Also would the win98se drivers give better hard drive performance on my ata 100 5400rpm Hd than the promise drivers? This upgrade didnt seem to make program loading any faster.
I also have an ata 100 Maxtor upgrade card should anyone think ata 100 performance would be better than the onboard promise drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.....

Replace the PS with something better.

Faster cpu won't make program loading any faster because you are limited by the IDE transfer rates. Though some progs may appear to load faster. At least that's my opinion. For what it's worth.

Hi Iron Woode,

Thanks for the reply,
The only PS I have to try is a sparkle 300w...I tried it and got the same results. Thanks for the info regarding the transfer rates. I may try raid 0 or go to a 7200 rpm HD. My motherboard is a bit on the old side
rev 1.05 but ran ok prior to the cpu upgrade. I may just invest in a case/ps combo and keep this case for future projects.

Thanks again,
Breeze
