Ok...so uh, I was having major issues with my video card...see link: video card issues...anyhow, my computer locked up shortly after my last edit to the first post. I forced it to shut down (held down power button), and then I let it sit to cool off the video card.

But now..when I turn the computer on...it doesn't stay on. Everything whirs up for about 1 second...then stops. I don't know what's causing this...I can't imagine the processor being fried, b/c well, there's no burning smell (last time I killed one it smelled acrid), and well, I havent touched the heatsink or anything else inside teh case, so yeah...*shrug*

please help...please...I kinda need it back to do my work...(posting from dad's laptop)

*FIX* It was the video card...I took everything out of the system, put it back piece by piece & replaced the video...it's happy again *breathes deep*

Now...homework...

Thanks guys 🙂

That can be caused by a number of things. If you ask me, it's either your power supply or motherboard.

Also try slapping in a different video card and see if it actually boots up.

I'm thinkign it's either motherboard or power supply--I just unplugged everything from the motherboard (ram, pci cards, vid card, hard drives, optical drive), and the power still doesn't come on. I think im going to try a different power supply...but i'll have to ask my dad on that, as I'd have to rip into another machine to do so.

I had this problem before. Mine was related to my CMOS.. I had to clear it. I thought it was a vid card problem too.
Try restarting your BIOS.. pull out the jumper, put it into reset, start ur system and put it back in again.

lol, this is exciting...it suddenly decided to boot again. I left the power cord out for a while, went away...then came back and tried again..and POOF it worked. Worked with ram back in, now looking for a different video card to try. Will post back w/more details...
