Need help applying thermal grease to T-Bird

I'm gonna put some grease on my T-Bird. Should I apply to the die, the edges, the heatsink, etc.....I really have no idea where/or how much to put.

just apply it on top of the die...make sure the layer is thick enough so that no part of the die is showing through the thermal grease
