Need help achieving max resolution on 27" monitor

Hi all. I'm having a little issue achieving the native resolution on my monitor. It is a Dell u2700 series with a native resolution of 2560 x 1440. This isn't a video card issue . . . well, not an issue dealing with GPU limitations at any rate.

All I can seem to get is 1080p. I've tried upgrading to a faster HDMI cable and I ordered a dual-link DVI cable (the one with more pins). The HDMI cable, of course, didn't work. Even though the cable itself is capable of carying the bandwidth needed, it seems to be limited by HDCP to 1080p. I'm honestly not sure why the DL DVI cable didn't work. That's where I get stuck. I've even tried editing the registry and adding a custom resolution which worked, but it doesn't cary over to games, only desktop applications.

I know I've missed something simple here. Please help. This big beautiful monitor not performing the way it should is maddening.

I forgot about display port. I'll have to get a cable and try that.

As for drivers, I seriously doubt that is the issue as I keep them updated, but I'll double check just to rule it out. Thanks for the responses guys.

There should be a cable with the screen. Eitehr a DL DVI or DP.

Yes there should have been. Research led me to exactly this. Unfortunately mine was left out when the box was packed. I've had this monitor for a year now, btw (purchased new, not refurb.), so sadly, there's no way to request one from Dell. I'm on my own here.

I did buy a diplayport cable from best buy, but closer inspection shows it's rated for up to 1080p. There's one on cables2go that is rated for 2560 x 1600. It's version 1.2.

Could this be why the one from Best Buy didn't work? Returning online purchases can be a pain, so I thought I'd ask before I bought one.

Yes, get one rated for 1600p. They should say so in their specs. Alternatively get a dual-link DVI cable, but those aren't cheap either.
