Need help about install 2nd raptor HD

Hello all...I'm new in this forum 🙂

I need to know what i need to do before i adding 2nd 36gb raptor hd , the master drive is on 1+0 raid (also 36gb raptor) and already install Window xp while back so could you point out what should be done before Install HD.Have driver for this raid (Promise fastrk raid).

Wait, so how many Raptors do you have? 2 or 3? You said you already have a Raptor in 1+0? How do you even RAID w/ 1 HD? That does not make sense. Do you want to add the new Raptor to your original Raptor which has the OS installed on it as part of the RAID 1 or RAID 0? In either case, you have wipe the 1st Raptor, define the RAID 1 or 0 array in the promise bios, load winxp installation CD, load promise raid card driver, install winxp.

You can only install the new Raptor as another driver letter in winxp, you can't pair it up to an existing HD to create a RAID 1 or 0 w/o formatting the 1st HD.

And as a reminder, RAID 0 is stripping, which doubles the HD space. RAID 1 is mirroring, HD space remains the same as one HD.

Right now 1 hd , my mistake , I shouldn't listen to fryer guy at store that told me run 1+0 raid on 1 hd..(sign) ....Anyway Guess I have to start all over again so I 'm gonna run on raid 0 and use Via driver...not promise raid driver<(if this for driver card?) if it is..I'm gonna shoot that saleman .:thumbsdown:

Now once I install 2nd hdd , reboot, bios setup raid 0, f6, fdisk driver then winxp..correct ?

 
so what you want to do is add your second hard drive and set up a raid 0 array? Are you using the promise fasttrk controller, or are you using a Via controller on your motherboard? What motherboard do you have?? Set up your raid array, ,and whatever raid controller you are using, put the drivers for that controller on a floppy disk, and press F6 when prompted by windows setup.

I'm using promise fasttrack controler right now..can't use via controler unless if i have 2 hd in . Got Asus A8V deluxe mobo.

That should be all you need, since you are gonna use the Via controller,set up the array, and just put the via sata raid drivers on a floppy, and then F6 when prompted.
