Need help!! Abit KT7 (none raid) and Maxtor DiamondMax40 problem

Well, I got the new BIOS...and did a fresh Install of win98. It automatically installed some VIA drivers, it didn't even install the MS ones. SO that idea got shot down. Then, when I tried installing the latest VIA apollo drivers, my whole system went to crap. Blue screens on boot up, GARBLED (never seen that before) error messages after logging in...all sorts of heinous stuff. So right now I am running with the default Win98 VIA drivers (not sure if they are bus mastering), without DMA enabled. I guess I need to wait for the next release.
