Need help: $250 Budget to Upgrade my PC

Touchdown

Member
I'm currently running an ASUS K7V motherboard with a AMD Athlong 700 MHZ, 256 MB memory, 2 20GB Hard Drives, 12 CD-RW, 17" old monitor in a pretty nice Antec case.

I'm not a heavy gamer but do dable in some video editing. The wife has granted me 🙂 $250 to upgrade this machine. Any ideas on hardware that I could do?

Any insight would be appreciated.

RAM.................. As much used Pc2100 for the left over money you got, preferably Samsung (the most bang for your buck)

thats would I would do.. assuming you don't need a new vid card.. With vid editing, you may want to just up the CPU and RAM and get a new Gf3 ti-200 or something.. Good luck

From Newegg
Motherboard = Abit KD7 for $ 99 + $ 5 Freight = $ 104
CPU = Athlon XP1700+ Retail (H/S & Fan) = $ 61.99

From Crucial PC2700, DDR333, Qty (1) stick of 256MB = $ 69.29

Total = $ 235.28 leaves you some change for a beer.

Check out the features on the motherboard, a lot of overhead for upgrade and expansion.

Fools! You don't know anything! Read his post more carefully next time! Here's what you should do man:

Diamond stud earrings: $99 (probably 1/4 carat total weight)
Dozen Red Roses: $49.95
Dinner for two: $100

That will set you back 250 bucks and should then leave you in a position with enough money to
buy a new computer all together!

Go on say it: Smilin, you da man!

I think he has got it settled 😀

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try and knock that budget up to about $300-$350 for the upgrades and that should give me a bit more room to play.

Gentleman, let this thread remind of yet another reason to stay single as long as you can. 2 years ago this would not have even been an issue. 🙂
