I currently have one 40 gig Diamondmax Plus 7200 rpm hdd and one Western Digital 6.4 gig 7200 rpm HDD for backup.
I am looking to replace the old Western Digital with a new harddrive of 40 gigabyte capacity....
I was looking at the IBM new 60GXP and a few other drives....but I don't really know which one to get...
Please, give me your recommendations!!! :) Thanks

Get either a fireball plus AS or a DiamondMax+60, like the one you have... they are the 2 best for reliability and are good overall in like every category!

The reliability verdict isn't out yet, but the newer maxtor d740x's fly... .they're very nice, and very fast, and the same general cost range as other 40gb drives.... the only knock is the noise is a little high... i haven' ttested out AAM on this drive yet, though.

I personally have a Quantum Baraccuda IV and an IBM 60GXP of the 40GB variety, and both seem to work well. I would personally lean toward the Quantum though, becuase it hasn't had all the reported reliability problems.
