Hey, all. :)

I recently bought a Dell 2005FPw monitor. However, the DVI-I output on my Ti4600 has a few issues tying to drive this monitor (DVI-D, and the res is 1680x1050 as well). Can anyone recommend me a good card that shouldn't have any problems w/this monitor and is as fast or faster than my 4600? I'm guessing it is a 9600xt or 9800 pro since the 6600gt agp version is still overpriced.

I'll put this card in FS/FT someday too, once I find a replacement.

TIA!

I wouldn't buy less than a used 9700, 9700 Pro, 9800, or 9800 Pro. That's a ~$100-160 spread, but probably the best deal you'll find at that price. I'm pretty sure those cards won't have trouble driving your new LCD.

Alternatively, there's always a 6600GT or 6800 for $225-250+. Either will be faster than any of those ATi cards, especially at 16x10, and they're a bit more future-proof because of their extra speed and greater feature set.

I wouldn't expect to run at the 2005's native res with AA on any of those cards, tho.

For modern games like Doom3 my 5900XT is quite a bit faster than my 4400, plus it uses less power.

Thanks. :) Yeah, I'd love to get a 6600GT, but the AGP ones are overpriced right now. If I could get one for the same price as a PCIe version I'd get it. Maybe I should try to live with things until after xmas and see if prices change? The 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro seem to go from 125-155 on eBay anyway, and I can probably only get $50 for my 4600.

yeah, but that 5900XT takes a helluva hit here

Yepp.

My point was that if you spend $180 even on this card you are much faster than with the 4400.

If you spend $120 you probably are not.

I wonder what kind of DVI problem the 460 is supposed to have, BTW.

Sorry for the delayed response.

The TMDS transmitter on the 4600 is limited to 1280x1024 (or at least it says it is).
