Need good dbase admin book recommendation

What are the best books to study? I have limited SQL experience, and even less Oracle. I really would like to implement some of them here at work, so I can list it as experience on my resume. 🙂

Which books should I consider. I would like to be able to get to the level where I can apply to be a db admin, but I need to start with the basics. Should I looks at the Intro to Oracle Admin stuff or the Oracle Basics? Should I start with 9i or 10g? Most companies, I assume, won't be upgrading to 10g for a while, so 9i DBs should be around for a while.

I currently have 3 years experience as the IT staff (yes, the whole staff) for a small bank. I support 150 PCs and around 20 NT and 2000 servers. I need out. 🙂

The biggest thing companies look for in a DBA is experience. Years of experience. I suppose that's true for most jobs, but it seems particularly important for DBA work. There are a couple of Microsoft press books on SQL which are generally pretty good.

I'd stick with 9i for now. Oracle is extremly easy to learn, I wouldn't even worry about getting a book unless you want it for a command reference.

Unless you get really lucky your going to need multiple DBA certifications to get a job as a DBA somewhere other than where you already work.

That's exactly why I want to learn it, and see if we can benefit from running an oracle DB where I currently work. That way I learn, get experience, and its not on my dime.
