I get internet from a nearby bulding and need a new bridge (current d-link POS crashes every 6-12 hrs)

But I'd like it to be built into an AP so I can relay the signal to a laptop.

I tried a linksys WRT54G I had bought for a client but it didn't seem to have a bridging function.

Where can I find an AP that does?

You probably mean a repeater.

Why 80211g? Is the source is 802.11g.

Source is 11b but the laptop is 11g and connects to a home network as well, so I'd like the speed.

Does a "repeater" have all the capabilities of an AP? I only get 1 public IP from which I'd like to NAT my own wireless as well as ethernet networks with 1 device.

If you want to switch locally from 802.11b to 802.11g you can not use w repeater.

I would get a Go with 802.11g Wireless Router, and an 802.11b Client Bridge (like the Linksys WET11).

Plug the Client Bridge to the Router and you should have 802.11b Internet and 802.11g local. (The 802.11g will be slower than the regular 802,11g dye to the presence of 802.11b but there is nothing too much that you can do about it because of your special predicament.

Ok suppose the neighbor's 11b AP was replaced with 11g instead (he's been considering this). Approx what % increase would this give my local 11g? (as opossed to a mixed b/g environment)

It seems I was a bit confused as to the difference between the WRT54G and WAP54G. I've been doing some more research and the later does have bridging/repeater capabilities (at least, with upgraded firmware) which would make it ideal for my purposes, don't you think?
