Need free virus scanner

geno

I just need to do a quick, one-time scan on a computer and clean it up, any ideas where I can get a free virus scanner/cleaner?

If you don't want to install anything, you might try F-Prot for DOS.

All you have to do is DL the executable and the two latest virus definitions. Extract them into a directory and burn the directory to a CD. Reboot into DOS mode with CD-ROM support and run f-prot.exe from the command line.

I used avg free the other day and it found a virus in a zip file that panda, mcafee and a couple others didn't find. I was impressed.

or try Trendmicro Housecall

I was using trendmicro till one day when I found a very large log file it was creating. It seemed to have all of the activity that I had been doing on my computer in it. It's been awhile and I really don't remember the details or what the filename was but I haven't used it since.

Look around on your hard drive and see if you can find it. One way would be to run trendmicro's virus scan and then search on reacently accessed files.
