Need free simple software to split/create MP3s

StageLeft

No Lifer
I have a bunch of 2 hour long music MP3s and I want to split out sections from these and then compile into another, long MP3. I don't want to do anything else with them, just a simple split up from the many I have into one super-wicked one that I will create based on my awesome taste in music.

What is the best program for this? I want it simple because I have a simple mind and no interest in learning much about an application.

Thanks for recommendations 🙂 Free, obviously!

Thanks, i tried audacity. Problem is it has to import the files and an import of a 200 meg file wanted about 10 min. I don't need an import of a file or any pre-processing. I just want to go to periods of time in it, I want something extremely simple!

easiest way i've found is to use mp3 direct cut.
then go to special drop down menu-> auto cue. this lets you set cuts for every XminutesXseconds
then you save the split under file...and it spits out chunks of mp3 in a jiffy. no need to manually do things in audacity. i'm sure theres a way to do specific cut areas but i don'nt use it for that so i never looked into it.
i just had to hack up a long audiobook mp3 is all.

Can't you just "Open" it in Audacity?

Crap, I missed the updates in this thread. I found two free programs that work perfectly:

Mega MP3splitter to break them into MP3s and then MP3 Merger to combine them. I now have a super duper trance mix for hitting the gym 🙂
