Well, actually the only time I have issues is in Drag racing.
You have to keep the tachometer in a green area, which is impossible to do with keyboard throttle. If you don't, it doesn't shift up, so I'm kind of stuck on these races until I get something to work.
I don't have a steering wheel or Xbox 360 controller to use with the game, and I don't plan on buying either. Is there any other possible way I could get it to work?

No, I don't think so. All keyboard switches are binary.

It is really difficult to play a racing sim with a keyboard, because, like you pointed out, driving requires a lot of fine adjustments possible only with analog controls. (This can be considered a testament to how far NFS is from being a sim, since I've played every single NFS on keyboard just fine).

I say save up the $30 or so to buy a Xbox 360 controller. It works fine for Forza 2, so it should be more than fine for NFS.

Been using this for a few years now and really love it. Unlike a lot of Logitech stuff it's really built solid, it has some heft to it and you get the feeling you could run it over in a tank without doing much damage.
