Need for Speed Pro Street

Barfo

Lifer
The trailer and screenshots look ok and it looks like there'll be real car damage this time which is good.

However, it seems that there won't be cop chases and it will be more ricer oriented than carbon and most wanted, you can head to needforspeed.com to see the trailer.

hopefully there will be lan support for PC users this time...sheesh.

carbon was meh last year, i hope they upped the quality/gameplay this year.

That series got way too arcade-style after Porsche Unleashed, IMO. Still fun to play, but the original NFS was all about artistic accuracy (they collaborated with R&T for it).

The last NFS game I bought was Most Wanted. The only real gripe I had (but it's a big one that many people have noted) is the ridiculous rubber-banding of the AI (also the lack of scalable difficulty). The AI cars are able to catch up to and pass you in impossibly short amounts of time, even if you've built up a huge lead.

Not sure if that was also a problem in Carbon, or if that'll continue to be a problem in this new game.

The only one in the series that I have ever played was Porsche Unleashed, I take it that I am not missing anything?

My favorite by far was Most Wanted, the whole central theme of getting away from the cops made the gameplay pretty unique - otherwise the NFS series is the Madden of racing games, pretty much a new clone every year that is slightly better than the one before it but nothing really ground breaking.

Although at least it isn't like Madden in the sense that it isn't the only franchise of its kind we can choose from.

It also looks like there'll be no more free roaming 🙁

The whole game was the problem, it was more like a crappy expansion pack for MW.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed was an awesome game in Career mode. Even scraping a wall or guard-rail for a second at 100+ mph meant a decent chunk of money in repairs before the next race. It made you want to drive like a maniac while keeping your car in 100% mint-like condition.

I personally would like a grittier theme for the game. More Vin Diesel, less Paul Walker if you know what I mean. 😀

I have only played two of these games, Hot Pursuit I and Most Wanted, and I thought they were both generally great. Don't know much about the others though. Pro Street is apparently supposed to be more of a sim than an arcade racer.

I totally agree with this statement!!

Personally, I hate EA and most of their games. HOWEVER, their NFS series has been one that I have enjoyed greatly. I've been playing Forza 2 for a while now, and this will be a welcome change. I usually prefer simulations, but... NFS has always been fun to race (since there's catchup), the cars customize so much nicer, the sense of speed is really good, and the sound of the cars just sound so much more visceral. I'm looking forward to this.

edit: didn't realize they took out roaming and cops... i'll miss that. :/ Getting smashed by police SUVs was always fun.
