Just picked it up yesterday. and I have to say that I am actually impressed so far. The game is really polished, and it is really fun.
The game seems to be a cross between the NFS Underground series, NFS hot pursuit, NFS high stakes and midtown madness. Yes, midtown madness! You have enormous maps to explore, and you can actually drive from one event to another, and you must drive to the upgrade shops and showrooms to get new stuff.
The cut scenes are well done, with a nice mix of green screen acting and computer animation. Of course, the acting is all about "attitude" and "street cred", but it's interesting. Once you get into the game, the green screen action slows down, until you face the next "Blacklist" opponent.
The best par so far, are the police chase scenarios (for milestones, bounty, etc.) the chases are enormous, and unlike High Stakes, you never run out of cops on your tail. I'm still early into the game, and I've had several chases with upwards of 15 cars after me. Unlike hot pursuit, there haven't been any exploding barrels launched from helicopters (yet). Replay value is high.
The graphics are good, and they feature an HDR simulation. It is annoying at first (being blinded by the sun as you exit a tunnel) but it adds to the challenge of the game. There is also a weather system, and it is done rather convincingly.
Finally, the best feature is "no load time". The action between blacklist opponents is continuous, without load screens. I played the game for 3 hours without any noticeable load times.
EA seems to have done it right this time.
Oh, and for the Porsche Unleashed fans (I remembered your post Schadenfroh), there are lots of highway racing sections (on and off ramps, traffic, etc...). Good stuff..
I have not tried multi player, so I have no idea if it is any good. Hopefully EA found a way to get rid of the cheaters (Hot Pursuit2 was awful for that, especially the "300mph reset hack").
