This is a stupid question, but are you absolutely certain 9.0c is installed? Type in dxdiag in the Run box to see. Take no offense, I'm not trying to make you out to be stupid :). If 9.0c is installed, see if you reinstall a copy of it overtop the existing.

IIRC I had the same problem although my DX9.0c was up to date. I do not recall exactly, but I think you need to install it in Win2K compatibility mode. Right click on the CD-ROM drive icon (which has your installation disc) , choose Win2K compatibility mode, and then install.

After installation, you can run NFS:MW only from the desktop shortcut icon. (Win2k mode not reqd.), but it will run just fine. It will not launch from the CD-ROM drive though.

never mind i figured it out. your suppose to right click cd rom then click open. find autorun.exe. right click it and then click on properties. click on the compatibility tab and change it to run installation on widows 2000. at the end of the installation you have to change it back.

ea games needs to change its programmers. every game they make has problems.

I wonder what causes that... i installed my NFS:MW on windows xp without messing with win2k compatibility, etc... and I never had a problem.

It's not the programmers that are the problem. It's EA forcing them to rush and release unfinished games. The fact it's run like a sweatshop doesn't help either.

On another note, I downloaded the demo from one source and received that error regarding DirectX even though I was running the absolute latest. I downloaded it again, via a different source and it worked fine.
