Need for Speed III : Hot Pursuit on XP?

Hey all,

Digging up some old games and dusted off this gem. I tried installing it normally on my Dell laptop (C2Duo 2.0 ghz, 3 gb RAM, Intel x3100 Graphics) and installing it in compatibility mode, neither gets rid of this issue.

The game runs, but the frame rate must be in the single digits. Changing the 3D acceleration device doesn't make a difference (except that in software mode, there is no translucency, yada yada).

From some youtube videos I've seen, many others have experienced this problem but their methods of fixing it (running the game in Win95 compatibility mode) hasn't helped.

Has anyone successfully run this game in XP?

I can't get either Hot Pursuit or High Stakes to run on Xp at all, no matter what I try.

It's irritating.

If you're referring to my post -

If there's an option for full install on any game I take it.

Out of curiosity, what are you system specs? Are you running in Software or D3D Accelerated mode? Are you using SP3? Are you running it in Compatibility mode?

specs. Software and D3D both work. SP2 though and I use video driver version 93.71. No compatibility mode.

Maybe for some reason it is incompatible with Intel graphics?

High stakes needs a modified .ini file to run on XP if I remember right. It was made by the NFS community. See http://www.nfscars.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8413&page=1
