I just rented this game and everything looks great...but how the hell do I open the world map ??

In the options menu it says < (left D pad), but nothing happens ?...I've tried changing the commands so the world map is opened with the < analogue stick as well..nothing happens ???

Is this a bug in game or something ?

WTF ?!?!?
 
How far into the game are you?

I have it for Xbox (no 360 for me yet) and IIRC, it took until after I got the first crew member to open the map.
