Okay, PLEASE read this post all the way to the end.

My good friend is between a rock and a hard place with his 1.4 Ghz Athlon. When he was putting his system together, he pulled the 4 foam pieces off the corners. Well, the processor doesn't work, and the computer store won't take the cpu back without the foam bumpers on there, and all AMD will give him in exchange for it (after much negotiating) is a 950 Mhz cpu. If anyone has a burnt up processor, or one with a cracked core, and has foam bumpers that you could send to me, PLEASE do. Or if you know where you can buy these, please let me know.

Either email me, or PM me as soon as possible.

Thanks

I disagree Dr. those pads are specifically designed to be the right height for the Athlon, and anyhow, a company would notice the difference.

Your best bet is probably to buy a cheap Duron. I've seen new ones selling for as low as $30. You could take the pads off of it and use them on the 1.4 while sending it back. In the mean time you can use the Duron until they send you back a new 1.4. You can probably find a Duron in the forsale forum or on eBait for much cheaper.

Good luck.

He pulled them off.
Did he chip the core?
Why should anyone else have to pay for this?

What is it with people? You modify a product, then expect a vendor to replace it for you, when you mess it up? Now you want to try and fix it and still get the vendor to replace it? Sheesh....HELLO!!!! The damn pads are put there for a reason, and there is not a valid reason to take them off. Their purpose is to support the heatsink with reasonable stability.

Well said Compuwiz. Don't make the vendor and in reality the rest of us pay for his screw up.
