I am assembling a system using

Intel D865GBFLK i865G P4 (800FSB) Skt478 DDR ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Video, Gigabit LAN Retail
P4 2.4 800
Kingston KVR333X64C25/256 256MB DDR333 PC2700 Memory
WD 40GB Second Ed HD
Liteon CDRW

This will be a file server running Win2K Server on a simple network. While the board has on board video, gigabit lan, SATA and ide, no raid, I have not been able to find any reviews or user comments about the board. I do not see a case speaker connection. I am looking for comments/feedback from people who have used this board for potential problems, key bios update etc.

I have a system with the same board w 865G. It has worked flawlessly with no problem whatsoever. This is a fast board but not for oc'ing. This is a very stable, reliable board. I have added a 64meg AGP video card, which has significantly increased performance. I am using 2 sticks of Corsair 3200C2 512meg each for total gig of RAM dual channel mode. P4 2.6c HT processor at 800FSB. Doing lots of huge digital image file processing with Photoshop, nice and fast. You wont be sorry if you want a fast reliable, predicatable machine, but do not buy this board if you want to oc and tweak.

Also, I think there is a speaker on the board.

The memory slots are not color coded as on other mobos, so make sure you have your memory sticks in the correct slots for dual channel function.

Here's some info from www.intel.com:

The Desktop Board D865GBF supports DDR400, DDR 333 and DDR 266 SDRAM Memory. There are two DIMM channels supporting up to four 184-pin DDR SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMMs) with gold-plated contacts. The Desktop Board D865GBF is designed to support a memory range of 64 MB minimum (using 64 Mbit technology) up to 4.0 GB maximum (using 512 Mbit technology) that conforms to the latest Intel JEDEC specification Addendums. The Desktop Board D865GBF supports non-ECC DIMMs.

Thanks, brainwave.

I have a question about the front panel audio connnections. I am using a generic case which has two front audio connectors, each with 4 leads - Mic in, Ground, one with Right in and Right out, and the other Left in/out - but board audio connector (J9A2) has pins:

Mic in 1 2 Ground
Mic in bass 3 4 Power +5V
R Out 5 6 R return
Ground 7 8 Key ??
L Out 9 10 L return

I am assuming that I leave pins 4 and 8 unused. Also the power LED on the case as a 3 pin connector, although on two pins are connected, so it wont fit on the front panel header (J9J1), so should I connect it to the second Power LED header (JPJ3).

Also the PS I am using an Enermax model has a fan connector, since I dont have a front chassis fan, can I connect it there?

I have already tested the board and it works fine.

The front panel audio pin connectors for J9A2 you would use would be:
mic in 1
mic ground 2
R out 5
R in 6
L out 9
L in 10
Pin 8 is a "key" for a plug, not an active pin

Use J9J3 for Power LED (it has 2 pins).

If the plug on your fan connector fits on J7J3, you can use it for an auxiliary fan. My case fans have standard 12 volt plugs to plug into the power supply.
