A friend of mine is selling a 6 month old Asus Rampage II GENE mobo. It's the micro ATX version. Everything works fine at the moment, no issues that I know of....I wanted to get feedback from anyone here that has used that mobo. From reading the egg reviews, it seems that some people had issues with doa's and ram slots, but i know this board works and is still under warranty.

thanks in advance

I havent used the board but it looks really good. My next rig i'll probably go for something in a very small case with mATX like that. If you want it, go for it.

I had 3 of them, and all three were populated with 12 gigs of RAM. Best board I've ever had. Not discounting those that had problems with RAM, just sharing my experience. I scored a 4th off of MWave, brand new clearance for $110.

If you look around Newegg and read reviews on other boards, especially but not limited to cheaper ones, lots of end users report DOAs or some other failures.

I'm 100% convinced that a good percentage of those boards are not DOA, and either are user error or RAM incompatibility, especially on the cheaper boards. People will buy their favorite enthusiast RAM, not remembering or understanding that the RAM requires boosted voltages. Also, just recently I helped someone fix their socket 1366 motherboard. From day 1 the board would not see the third channel of RAM. Turns out when he inserted the CPU, one corner dug into the pins in the socket, bending two of them. Straightening the pins fixed the problem.

You bastard! I knew you got that cheap one, but I didn't know you have FOUR of them now.

I've made that page my homepage, and throughout the day I'll tab to it and hit F5 to see what's new. So far, haven't found anything worthwhile (or gets purchased by someone else).

Ahhh well, I'll just be content with my DFI that I picked up for $135 a while back.

While i cant comment on that exact board Asus boards in general have never let me down in the past. Been running them since the K6-2 days. I would buy it.

Well now I'm more confused than ever. So I can get this board for $100, but another friend of mine who's into graphic design got himself a new mac and wants to get rid of his hackintosh board - it's a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5. He's asking $80.....the funny thing is that I was really tempted to get a P55 board and get the i5 qauddy at a local microcenter here for $160 before these 2 offers landed on my doorstep.

I'm currently on an AMD x3 720, I got the 4th core unlocked. Either way I want to upgrade, and I would need to buy new DDR3 RAM anyway. I'm still unsure what to do, I game occasionally and I dont need to OC. no need for dual gpu's either I have a Radeon 4830 that I plan on keeping for now, but i would like to keep this new build for 5 years. I would use this for everyday stuff on top of casual gaming and some photoshop work / video encoding. My other concern is if I get an SSD in the near future, would I miss SATA 6 on these x58 boards ? Or if pci-e SSD's become the norm next year, does the P55 bus limit it's performance since it shares bandwith.....any advice ?

oh and one other thing, I like quiet, cool pc's. thats what attracted me to the 1156 (95w) initially over the 1355 (130w) socket cpu's.

LOL, I only own 1 of them now. I sold the other 2 rigs to upgrade to better components and the last one went in my GF's rig so she can use VMs for work.

I almost regret sharing MWave "Must Go" deals with others on various sites because now there's just that much more competition.
