Need faster router

When hooked up to modem directly, I got 100 down, 35 up.

I think he was asking if when you hook up via a cable to your wireless router what the speed was, trying to clarify if the speed you were receiving was when you used wifi connection to your wireless router vs using a network cable to your wireless router (to make sure it wasn't simply when you connect via wifi you get ~40 down since that is about what you would get if you had a good 54G or even single band N 2.4GHz connection via wifi).

u wont even max out a 50mbit connection on wifi...
(your doing math without adding in the TCP OVERHEAD... hence why u cant get Lan speeds.)

And if u have one person not on N... he throws your entire network on G.

its wifi limitations.. not router limitations.

Check this site for the top ranking routers:

i came in here to look at routers too.
Im about on ends with my Soho router... i went from regular -> gaming -> soho.

Well for basic needs these routers are great... however the moment u start loading 2 people on the house with torrents, i need to reboot them at the end of the day.
I am actually considering building a Atom setup, and loading up Pfsense/m0n0wall/smoothwall on it and ditching the package router entirely..

^ seems to be a great base to start from seeing how its dual intel nic's 10/100/1000.

Op.. if u need that speed... and u do a lot of simultaneous connections.... a smoothwall firewall box + WAP => last solution u need.
