Need Fast GPU but a quiet GPU

I need a fast but quiet GPU for micro itx home build. I would like it be be faster than the GTX 560 so prolly something like a GTX 570 or GTX 580 but I want it to be quiet. Like barely able to hear it while gaming quiet. I am fine with both nVidia, and AMD, but would prefer nVidia.

What case might I ask, and are you ok with the heat being dumped in the case rather than a rear exhaust design?

I am not going to watercool this rig. Just want a simple rig for gaming at the house.

That's a mini ITX case, not a Micro ITX. Is that what you meant before?

You can go for get some of that padding, that makes your computer quieter (im not sure what its called)

put in anti vibration pads

low RPM but high airflow fan(s)

If you need faster than a GTX 560 ti, then perhaps the AMD 7xxx series when it comes out.

Why not get an aftermarket cooler?
after you buy the GPU that is (so you can compare)?

I would wait for AMD's 7xxx. The 28nm manufacturing process increases performance per watt a lot, so you can expect lower heat GPUs at gtx570-580 speeds, than what the current generation has to offer.

Unfortunately, I expect custom-cooled cards start appearing later on. It's just that you can't find properly quiet 570/580 cards without expensive watercooling, heavy underclocking or reckless disregard for temperature...

Maybe there is one exception. The ASUS 6970, GTX570 and GTX580 cards with triple slot coolers. The huge heatsink would allow you to create a custom fan profile in afterburner to quiet the card down. But you need good airflow. Can you fit that in your case?

I know that. I do not thwat do be doing a full loop. (I have that on my main system) I may be able to mount a cooler like that up in the front of the case. I don't think I would buy it anyway.

Sapphire (and others, I think) make passively cooled cards with decent GPUs. Of course, you'll need at least one case fan to move the heat out, so it may be a wash.

Cooling a GTX 580 in an ITX case is going to require either:
- Stock blower
- Waterblock
- Some gimcrack air-cooling setup with a massive fan that is as loud as the stock cooler

btw, OP, there is "mini-ITX", and "micro-ATX". There is no such thing as "micro-ITX".
