Guys. What would be the best way for me to get an external dvd burner on my laptop? I'm not sure what kind of drive I'd be looking for or if it would be better to buy an internal and get an enclosure for it. Any ideas?

I've been using an internal burner set up in an external enclosure. I think thats a good option, for u can choose top quality dvd burner, say from newegg . The setup is quite painless, just plugging in some cables and screweiing it in.

I have a standard desktop dvd burner (NEC 3500)
A 5.25 inch external enclosure (Bytecc with firewire).

I do recommend getting an enclosure with both firewire & USB. Firewire is usually the most supported in laptops (in terms of compatibility)

guys i have to ask though.
why do people buy external dvd roms/burners for laptops when there is one already inside the laptop?
i would love to hear some opinions.
is it because the current one is broken? or is it too slow?

my lappy also didn't come with dvd burner, only cd burner. I bought a Kanguro USB Burner, its actually NEC 3550A so its awesome! I think newegg has it i'm not sure.
