What is it for? If I get a card with it is it capable of running to my big screen and plugging into the hi-res plug (the one that is like a vga adapter)?

That would be an ultimate way of watching my large divx encoded movies...

Got large "kicker refund" check for taxes in state of oregon, and have about 190 (my half, other to wife) to spend...A bit more since I can sell my Gainward GF2 Pro /450 card...it is about a month and a half old and they still sell for around 124-130..

So figure I have about 290-300 to spend...

Ofcourse if I am wrong about my assumption of the dvi output that changes a lot...

The DVI output is used to provide a better looking LCD picture from your video card...versus using the analog output

You can convert DVI to VGA, but you effectively lose the benefits of the DVI output

OK..I am lost...

I want to send a digital signal out to the tv through its digital input....I don't want to use any conversion to vga...

If the card has a dci output it must have to send out a digital signal and I am 100 percent sure the dvi input on the tv will except a digital signal...So will it work???

I assume you have an HDTV?

If so, i'm pretty sure the digital in on that is not the same as a DVI output

i'll go see if i can find any links to prove it

edit: hmmm...I'll stick with what I originally said...but i DID find some video projectors that accept different forms of DVI for both HDTV and computer use...so hopefully someone can come clear all this up :)

Great...I have no idea what the cord or the plugs look like that come with some of these cards using dvi output...

I have my progressive scan dvd player hooked through it now...It is a cable that has the 3 component videos on dvd end and goes into one cord that comes out to a vga style plug...

This is why I am wondering....
