Need excuse to stop giving tech support to Father-in-Law & AOHell

Father in law installed AOL 8.0 plus & his system (that I gave him 2 years ago) is hosed, I can't even get to format his C drive with a boot disk (I get an I/O error). He can currently get into chat rooms, but can't browse & he won't give me a straight answer about what exactly he's done to his system (he prob doesn't know...)

Called up AOL & told them that if they tell him that his "corrupt TCP/IP stack is a hardware problem" again I'd come & kick their ass🙁 (they escelated his tech support call after that, told him they'd resolve it within 24 hours).

I'll be able to reformat his system & get him back online one way or another, but how the hell do I get out of giving him tech support for life?

Am open to suggestions...

Charge him for service. Get him to pay for tech support.
Or do what I did and tell him the truth "I don't support family computers because it gets too complicated in the end"

Get a divorce 😉

Dude, there's no way to get out of family tech support without looking like a complete jerk. Your only alternative is to get a job where you work 7 days a week for 16 hours a day...if you're not at home then he can't bug you for tech support 🙂

Then again if you want a better solution tell him to buy a Dell because they have great tech support and you're finding yourself with less free time every day so you wont be able to fix his PC at the drop of a hat.
