There never was an Enterprise class of ships, The NX-01 was just an NX ship, NCC-1701 was a Constitution class, NCC-1701-A was a Constitution refit, the B was an Excelsior, the C was an Ambassador, The D was a Galaxy, and the E was a Sovereign.

Well arguably if a NX ended up in production they name the class after the prototype, so any ships built along the lines of the NX-01 would indeed be "Enterprise" Class

There was the NX-02 that looked similar to Enterprise, and there was supposed to be an NX-03 as well but I don't believe they ever gave them a class designation since they were all different and were all experimental.

correct. example: USS Intrepid was the class prototype , therefore the USS Voyager is Intrepid class

Going by your avatar, I would think you'd want a TARDIS before a Starship.

The Tardis lacks an optional holodeck, replicators, or comfy chairs. Even Time Lords need some down time.

And I think we are all humbled by phoenix79's epic nerdiness.

Is this a standard? Who made this rule up?

The first people to start building standardized ships 100's/1000's of years ago? Ship classes get named after the first ship by that name (i.e. Nimitz class carriers, Ohio class subs, etc.)
