Hi, I am currently using MS Outlook Express 6, as it seems that it the only email client which can handle hotmail without add-on.

I am thinking to switch to Outlook (which has seamless integration of calender, contact list, etc) but worry about security hole.

Btw, I have heard good thing about Eudora & thunderbird

So, what are u guys using & recommend ?

My concern is the ease of migration from OE6 to the new email client.

Pls advise, Thanks

My favorites:

Yahoo's webmail

mutt

and finally...

telnet the mailserver directly into the POP3 port using POP commands

BTW, did Pegasus Mail originate in the University of Central Florida?

I've been using Eudora since email came out many many moons ago. I love it. No idea if it can handle Hotmail or not but there is a new Beta version 6 out I believe. I'm on the 5.2 version which works just great for me. No complaints at all really.

Eudora is now adware - its free, but adbased (unless you pay for it)

I dont like ads, so i use Foxmail and its not bad, it has a hotmail proxy.

I like Thunderbird, but I don't think it works with anything other than pop and imap.

Give PocoMail a look.
Pegasus is good also.

Eudora.....not so sure about. Used it in the past and never really liked it.

Yeha but all the ads are is a tiny little square in the corner in a spot where it's just empty space anyway. I coudln't even tell you one single ad that's show in there because it's no where I'd ever look while using the program.

Outlook is the best. I've used Eudora before but I switched over to Outlook because it's so much more powerful.

Yeah Outlook is great. So easy. Everything all together - contacts, mail, etc.

Except that it is slow and crashy. And it uses a proprietary format to store your mail.

Eudora takes less time to load, has great support for multiple mailboxes, and a powerful rules wizard. It saves your old mail in text format to your hard drive, which means you can search for old mail using Windows Find function. And it is pretty decent about importing your settings from OE.

I hate Outlook for these reasons:

It's buggy.
It runs best with hardware much better than mine. (That shouldn't be a big deal with most AT'ers.)
It ain't free.

My favorite GUI stand-alone program for reading email is Ximian Evolution. It's quite similar to Outlook, but it's free. I'm not sure if there's a Windows version, though. I'd have to check.

Outlook is another email client that will open your hotmail seemlessly, no add-on or plug-in needed. I've been using outlook for years and never had security issues. If you're not willing to spend $$$ for Outlook then look for Ximian.

I like Thunderbird from mozilla.org but your requirement of hotmail integration isn't going to help. AFAIK, hotmail only works natively in MS's e-mail clients, which are written to cause people to be infected with viruses and forces them to reinstall their software ($$$ for MS when people can't find their original cds or they discover their friend with the pirated version of office is out of town for the week and they have to buy their own copy).

Is there any sort of hotmail to pop forwarder service you could get for free/nearly free that would allow you to use a better e-mail client that is pop/imap only ?
