Need Easy Way to swap two seperately bootable hard drives on the same system

Thanks in advance for replies!

I need to have my music production software and the related files on its own hard drive on the same system that my wife uses for her purposes. Is there an easy way to select between the two as far as which one boots? I don't want to partition because the Music production drive will be very limited in its scope of access and be a smaller, dedicated file system. I will update and transfer files from the internet, etc, but it will not be used to surf or anything other than create my music files and store them. That way nobody (grandkids, etc) can mess with it. I need a Serial ata 3.0 connection and be able to access the Firewire card. I don't know if I can do this with an "external drive" or if I do, how to configure it to boot instead of the now native hd.

I could put in an internal drive and just plug in a different cable to the desired drive each time, but I know there has to be a better way..

Thanks in advance!

I would try the "music" OS on an ESATA drive. Set the boot order to look for that first. Unhook it when not in use.

I do that regularly with two IDE PATA drives. Set both to Master, and then just move the Molex power plug from one to the other. This can be more elegant if you use a mobile ack. My second system has selectable SATA bootable drives in mobile racks. Just select by key switch.

You can use one rack and insert different drives in trays, or two racks ready to go.
