Now I'm looking for a new dvd player for a tv that I'm getting. I'm looking on the low end, but I want the best bang for the buck. I was considering the Panasonic DVD R31 because the DVD R30 always got good reviews. Are their any other standouts in the under $200 range for a single player?

TIA,

Sal

I dunno...I have an APEX I got from Wal-Mart for $80. It's down to $75 or so now...it plays DVD, CD, mp3, all that jazz, works fine for me. Have not had 1 complaint about it yet.

I work for wally world, and those things suck. We have to return them defective all the time. I can vouch for at least.... 500 or so since last year. Our walmart moves tons of volume, and alot of our electronics (Apex and Orion) are brought back.

I work there too, I've seen a lot of Orion stuff back at Claims, but I don't see too many APEX devices. Maybe I got lucky...dunno. Like I said, my experience has been great.

Well.. I meant budget players below $200, but probably not less than $100.

I have been looking at the Panasonic DVD RV31, Pioneer 343 and the Toshiba 1201 or something like that.. I'm probably butchering the model numbers, but you get the idea. Any suggestions?

How important or useful is the zoom feature? Some people seem to have to have it. I have no idea..

Thanks again,

Sal

I have a Panasonic DVD-RV31S (the silver version), & for the money it's pretty damn good. Using component output to my Wega DVD's are gorgeous.

:)

I consider it among the best purchases I have ever made.

Get a Samsung with the NUON chip in it. They are the most powerfull DVD processors. They have mega zoom and you can even play some games on them There are some DVDs that have special extras just for the NUON chip (The new Planet of the Apes).

The Panasonic RV31 is a very good player for about $170.

However, the Toshiba 3750 is a better player for about $180. It has all the features of the RV31 plus it has progressive scan output for when you get your HDTV.

Both those players are highly rated and either would be an excellent choice.
