I'd suggest the Samsung 18x without Lightscribe - it gets a sligtly better overall review than the one with Lightscribe. I can't see LS as being more than a passing fad anyway.

I wouldn't trust a Newegg review like that.

I bet it's the same exact drive with different firmware, just so they don't have to pay royalties to HP.

Not newegg reviews - places like cdrlabs, cdrinfo, etc. Of course I wouldn't recommend either as your pimary burner, for that it's always Plextor here. The PX-760A is the latest model available in the States and not as highly priced as Plexy used to be - my 712 started out at nearly $200...

I use a Samsung 18x almost every day. Never had a coaster. I use Verbatim media for most everything, although I have used really cheap media as well for things that I do not worry about long term storage.

I see no reason to pay extra for a Plextor.
