Want to buy myself a DVD+/-RW which can burn Dual Layers DVD, but dont want pay lots of money for DL DVD+/-RW. What drives single layer DVD drives can be hacked to burn DL DVD's?

Anyway i am looking for hackable dvd-rw's now.

Btw why some manufacturers like plextor make drives with interface SATA and IEEE 1394 it cost so much, but its just speed of interface not drive what is increased so they write with same speed.

And can non DL DVD-rw read DL disks and on what speed,? Since nec say 3500 reads/writes DL on 4X.

As was mentioned, there is zero need to use hacked firmware to achieve dual layer.
Dual layer drives are very cheap now.

My recommendation would be the BenQ DW1620, but only because i love mine.

Well i yeah its cheap, even only hackable drive i know NEC ND-2500 costs same as ND-2510 which have DL support.
I personally i dont like BenQ, I think i go for Nec ND-3500.
