Hi,

I'm currently installing "Windows 2000 Professional" in a computer with some years, and I'm having problems finding some drivers (video & sound drivers).

When I turn on the PC, I can read some info about the video card, mainly, it seems to be a "S3 86C362 Trio3D2X".

I have no driver for it, no floppy disk, no CD, nothing ... I'm googling for some drivers but withou success so far ... anyone has a clue on how can I install some driver for it? I currently can only run in 16 color mode :(

On the S3 Graphics site they don't help much, they could at least allow access to "Windows 98" drivers, I can understand they don't release drivers for XP, 2003 or even 2000, but don't allow us to download ANY driver it's a pain.

Thank You.

Hmm. I'm pretty familiar with S3's older graphics products, but I'm drawing a blank on that '362 chipset, I don't think I've ever seen one of those. I've heard of Trio32, Trio64, Trio64V, and then they kind of went to their ViRGE-based cards. Never heard of a "Trio3D2X", perhaps that was a part that was released between the Trio64V and the Virge that I never noticed.

What type of memory does it use, and how much, and how many chips? I'm curious.

If you're daring, I would try just force-installing the Virge drivers, and if those don't work, then work backwards. S3 drivers are sort of "semi-unified", many of their driver sets for their different cards were based on the same codebase, just newer driver binaries, with the appropriate .INF install hooks for that specific chipset/card's PnP id. I've done some interesting S3 "driver mixing" back in the day, and it worked out pretty well.

Tried punching "82C362" (or "82C368") into Google? I found this, and this

I've tried googling, but just found some Windows XP strange drivers I wouldn't dare to install ... maybe I've misspelled ...

Anyway, I'll try that driver in the next couple of days ... thanks.

About the card itself, I didn't relly looked into it with much attention, so I can't give you any detail right now ... I'll post some info latter, though.
