Need driver help for phonefree

I've tried phonefree, Iconnecthere?, and I barely hear the other party and they barely hear me. I've made all volume adjustments suggested in the help sections of the programs. Only thing I can think of next is looking for updated drivers, but above mentioned sites and compaq help can't seem to help me. Can anyone tell me what sound drivers I need to upgrade to and where to get them. I just got a compaq presario 7470 6 months ago so don't know enough to know what drivers I even have. If this is any help, it has a 533mhz processer, 64m ram, 20g hd. I also downloaded net2phone and will try that tonight but I suspect I will have the same problems. Any help offered will be much appreciated.
